Hoge medewerker FED: "Werkloosheid V.S. 16%"

Opmerkelijk. Dennis Lockhart, president van de Fed Atlanta, heeft toegegeven dat de echte werkloosheid in de VS veel hoger is dan het officiele cijfer. Volgens Lockhart schommelt de werkloosheid momenteel rond de 16%. In Spanje ligt deze nu rond de 20%, In Ierland zelfs boven de 20%.

The real US unemployment rate is 16 percent if persons who have dropped out of the labor pool and those working less than they would like are counted, a Federal Reserve official said Wednesday.

“If one considers the people who would like a job but have stopped looking -- so-called discouraged workers -- and those who are working fewer hours than they want, the unemployment rate would move from the official 9.4 percent to 16 percent" said AtlantaFed chief Dennis Lockhart.

He underscored that he was expressing his own views, which did “do not necessarily reflect those of my colleagues on the Federal Open Market Committee,” the policy-setting body of the central bank.

"China reduced its holdings of US Treasury debt in June by the
biggest margin in nearly nine years, according to a US Treasury
Department report issued on Monday.
China cut its net holdings by 3.1 percent to $776.4 billion in June
from $801.5 billion in May, the report says. This is also the first
large-scale reduction of US Treasury debt by China so far this
year."
